What sort of writing do you do?

I know there are a lot of people here who do article writing (which I am going to start doing as well) for paid sites. I was just wondering what other forms of writing does everyone do? Do you write fiction maybe? Or poetry? Maybe news or real life reads?

That's how I've been, I've written poetry all my life and what to get into articles but it can be scary, lol. I mean I've got ideas but where does one start? I'm better at pouring my heart then writing about matter of fact type stuff. Have you tried sites like Associated Content or Helium?

Thanks! I've been a member of associated content for a while but had given up after they denied a review on a book I did. I went back and saw that they had asked me to submitt it for nonpay, but it will still get page views. I submitted that and a poem. They don't pay for poems but you can still post them. Sometimes just having content on there can mean you might get someone else to ask you to write something specific for them.

I think it's a great idea! I would read that book, in fact I've been thinking about learning more about it. My mother mentioned it and thinks yrs of doctors who rush through things have misdiagnosed a lot of things for me and told me that I should read about it as she has and that's what she's leaning towards might be wrong. I think though personally, as far as writing goes, it's always good to read about illnesses from people who have experienced them and it also helps others who have gone through it identify more with their own lives. You should totally do it!

I write articles for helium.com. But that's it.
I like writing fiction. I'm working on a few stories right now. And I finished two short stories so far. I also write poems, but I'm not that good with poems lol. I prefer fictional stories over everything.

I wonder if there is a site that pays for fiction? I like them a whole lot better too. It's so hard for me to get started on writing just a normal article, I'm used to putting a lot more creativity and my own emotion into it.

Yeah me too. Helium does allow you to post your fiction too. So far I have posted my 2 short stories, 1 poem and 2 excerpts from a novel I worked on. I also have some other articles that aren't fictional writing.

I just got my first article published at AC, which is a new experience...that is article writing...for years I've been doing fiction short stories, and have three novels in the works...now just to find time to do everthing. A few of my short stories were published in Minas Tirith Evening Star...the Journal of the American Tolkien Society..a real honor since I'm such a Lord of the Ring fan

Wow that's pretty cool, congrats! 3 novels, that is pretty impressive. I tried to write one years ago but it got way too personal and painfull so I stopped. Kinda sucks, sad stories always make the best movies, lol.

I am writing for helium and most of my writings are focused on beauty issues. I think I love writing facts and I am not a good creative writer. So I want to practice my fact-writing before going to writing something wild and imaginative. Also, I am very much interested in travel writing as well but I don't think I am going to do it on pay writing sites. I think I am going to start a whole blog about it because I tend to include some drawings in and stuff like that. I think you could experiment of what kind of genres you are good at and most interested in to start off, then you could always write other genres.

*laughs* I have my own preference and opinions in my beauty writings too! But the thing is, I try and I know it works and then I write about it. It's good to have a creative side! And I admire creative people, it makes life more fun too!
I haven't tried submitting any to those magazines as I don't live in the states, there is less chances of being accepted. That's probably why I build my portfolio online for now.

Well beauty is pretty creative so I'm sure it will be a smooth transaction for you from fact writing to creative.
A lot of major magazines have branches in other countries. I know Cosmo does and so does glamour, see if maybe some of those are in your area. I peeked at your profile, being in Hong Kong I think you have a huge advance on writers in the states. A lot of products we're just finding out about here have been known there for a while, most things launch and take off there first.

Have you tried submitting the beauty issue pieces to published mags?
I think I'm better at the creative instead of the fact writing. I like the fact writing but I feel like I can't do it without sticking my opinion or personal side to it.

I write articles on few sites. I like to write a cook book some time later. I have no talent inn writing poems or stories. Poetry is a good way to make money Online.

I tend to write about the more personal side of life. My own life is beginning to look like a soap opera, so maybe I'll have to try my hand at writing one of those. ;-) I published a cookbook of Danish recipes with some family stories inside, a couple of years ago.

I've always wanted to publish a cookbook, I bet that was a lot of fun. Soaps are so addictive! The best kind of drama to read about is the real life kind so I bet that would make a good story.

I've written a little bit on Associated Content, mostly on nutrition and politics (no, not together). I also write on Helium, and like their debate style formats, although it's hard to make any money on Helium. The thing I like to write best is book reviews, and I am thinking about starting a blog with my reviews. I do write fiction at home, but I find writing nonfiction pieces much easier.

I bet an article on nutrition and politics would be great. Now that I think about it, what do they eat when they are so busy on the road? I find that for me writing fiction comes much easier than nonfiction since you don't have to fact check your fiction, lol.

I write mainly fiction. I am very bad at article writing, for some reason I seem to not keep the facts straight and I tend to embellish. I did write a couple of articles, but it was mostly of things that I already knew or had experience with. With novel writing, I can use my imagination.
