My child is about 5 years of age and growing very interested in keeping a pat cat or dog or both . But for last 25 years or so our household had no pat animal . So we are undecisive on which one to keep .
ANother point -my parents are dead against the idea of keeping any pat . It was due to an accident in which our pat dog caused death to one of my fathers relatives at our home .But we shall manage them .
You help me decide which one better from your experiences or knowledge.

Hi i have cats and 2 dogs , a 6 month old staffie cross and a 4 month old chihuahua, i love them all but dogs probably make better companions as cats can be quite independant although this can be an advantage if you are very busy. Perhaps try a small breed of dog such as a chihuahua, jack russel or yorkshire terrier as these will need less exercise than the larger breeds (such as my staff)and are easier to walk especially for a child (less pulling. Also with a smaller dog there is less chance of it causing any serious injury although much of a dogs nature is the way it is brought up. If you do go for a dog make sure you reaserch the breed thouroughly.
