Tape worm treatment for cats

We have a little momma kitty who has been hanging around for a few weeks now. I noticed she has tape worms and I called the vets office and just to treat one cat is at least $10 a pill, I have 2 other cats of my own, outside kitties as well. Does anyone know of a home remedy that will work for ridding the tape worms? I bought the yellow liquid wormer from the vets for the other worms, but it does not kill a tape worm. Any info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. This kitty is slightly ferral also.

Oh no- poor kittie cat. My cat had tapeworms just recently- and she is an indoor cat only- I think Wal-Mart also carries meds and it’s cheaper than $10 for 1 cat- I bought our cats at the vet- I only have 1 cat though- You’re right you want to treat all the cats I would think- so that they don’t give it back and forth if this is possible- I don’t know of anything other than medicine! Sorry!

Tape worms are not contagious between cats, so you only have to treat one. Also, the pills are given out by weight so you may need 2 to treat on cat. You should not use any OTC medicine for tape worms as they are not tested and can harm or kill your animal. If this cat is going ot stick around and you are going to care for her, it is a good idea to bring her to the vet, get fully checked out and get all of her shots. If you can not afford to do it now, you should definately bring her - and your other cat if they have not had their yearly check up - in as soon as you can afford to do so.

I do not know of any home remedy for tape worms, and they are not always contagious between kitties. They are vectored through fleas. What I call a tape worm is a really long, spaghetti looking worm, I have only had one cat have that. I got it as a stray. I have tried OTC treatments, but the vet says they do not work, either. I will watch and see if anyone else can help you more than I can.

I'm usually looking for good home remedies on things including wormer for the 10-12 cats we have around here (live on a farm and strays show up and adopt us.) I haven't found anything that works to get rid of tape worms except for the stuff from the vet.

I don't know of any home treatments & I have always had cats. What I have found however, is that supermarkets sell worm treatments for cats at a far less cost than vets. I don't know if tape worm is one of the supermarket treatments available, but it is worth checking.

tapeworms are gotten from eating fleas. there's no home remedy unfortunately for this problem. i have a houseful right now with this issue and i'm just gonna have to suck it up and get the pills. BTW, it's not an infection...
