Liberal vs. Conservative

I definitely consider myself to be on the conservative side - I wouldn't say extreme. I know that on myLot, I have gotten put down for my conservative views, but that is ok because everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I don't really get offended, annoyed sometimes, but I realize that there are people on here from all different cultures, backgrounds and religions. If I reply to someones post that I disagree with, I usually make a point to say "In my opinion" or "that is just what I believe" etc. I feel it is important to respect others on these discussions. What a boring world we would live in if we all had the same opinions! LOL What do you consider your views - Conservative or Liberal? Are you extreme one way or the other? Do you think it is important to respect others on myLot? Or could you care less?

I am a conservative Christian, whose priority in life is my relationship with my loving heavenly Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ who loves me with an everlasting love and gave Himself for me. That does not mean that I am intolerant of other people's views or their rights to believe and live according to their beliefs. While I certainly believe there is only one living, creator God, who has set very definite paths for us, and that Jesus Christ is the only way to be reconciled with Him to share eternity with Him, I also respect other's rights to believe differently and to live - and die - according to their beliefs. I have met many people with very different views on myLot and have had many discussions/debates with them, but all in a very courteous, respectful way, and some have become very close friends - not only on myLot. I have also come across two myLotians who are very biased, abusive and intolerant. It is a simple matter to avoid these two. Nothing can be gained by either party, and their attitude spoils a good discussion. One of the best things about myLot is the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics, with a variety of views. If we all respect the others' rights, we can appreciate one another and share many happy moments. Good discussion. Thanks.

I am very open about being a Conservative. I'm not an extreme conservative, like you mentioned, but I am firm in my beliefs but very open to all others. Discussions that are blatantly going to offend me, I do not go into. Why start fights? It is hard to overcome the judgmental label people put on Christians in particular. I always tell them that if a person is being like that, they probably aren't really Christians. If someone isn't following the Bible, which clearly tells us not to judge, then I don't see a basis to consider them a real Christian. But even as a conservative, I see the value of all different thoughts and expressions. I am interested in the person, not judging their actions.

I agree with you, but I also like to remind people who judge Christians that just because we are Christians doesn't mean we are perfect nor does it mean we will ever be perfect. We're still the humans on this earth full of temptations and sometimes we falter. The only difference is that I have a God who will lift me up when I falter, brush me off, forgive me, and point me in the right direction.

I believe that yes we need to be respectful when answering discussions and posting comments- I agree that it is ok to disagree- I have been saying for months now here- What a boring world it would be if we all agreed all the time- I know I love debates- But do it with respect- People can get their feelings hurt with disrespect and rude comments.

I am Conservative - I don't believe in abortion except under special circumstance - health, rape, incest etc. But hey, if gays/lesbians want to marry - let them, it is there life, we have much bigger things to worry about. I think we must go after terrorist more aggressively - the way I see it, they have been around long enough, they are not rational and they don't value human life - I say we should be done being Mr. Nice Guy- if they can play dirty so can we. I am concerned about the environment, but if we want to control oil prices - we must make alternative energy vehicles affordable and maintainable, they should not cost $1000's more to buy then a gas based car...they should be the same price if not cheaper. We must do something about education, our standards are too low. And illegal immigrants - this garbage has gone on long enough. Either they become legal or they leave. If they are criminals - they leave - no option. They have to pay taxes and pay their own way - forget the system supporting them - people that have been paying into the system often can not get what they need because our resources are spread far too thin.

I think of myself as a true conservative. I am a fiscal conservative and a social liberal in most cases. Being a libertarian, I believe that the state should stay out of our lives. We should be left to make our own moral decisions. I believe the same should hold true for the corporations. Governments should leave them be and let true capitalism run its course. Taxes should be minimized and most public programs should be done away with in order to eliminate all debt. Government should be extremely small, and run on no debt and no surplus. That's what I mean by conservative. As far as morals go, or religious views, most people would thing I am way to conservative, and borderline fanatical. But I think that the state shouldn't regulate the morality of it's people. It should just protect all the people (and I include unborn infants in this term) in it's country from direct harm caused by someone else. As far as respect goes, you should always respect people. But that doesn't mean you have to respect their opinions. I know and respect a lot of people with stupid opinions, and you will find as many stupid opinions on mylot as you will anywhere else.

Ron Paul should win in 2008, he bypasses the liberal/conservative BS and is a libertarian :)
