I've tried a couple of deep fried treats, from fried snickers, to fried fruits. Most are dipped in a batter like a tempura batter and fried until it is golden colored.
I've never seen any place that has done fried twinkies so don't know if they add a layer of batter or just deep fry them as they are. I live near Philadelphia Pa and have of them being at the Jersey Shore and upstate in Pa at local fairs and such, so I will have to keep looking since I do want to try them.

Last weekend I saw something about deep fried twinkies on television. They battered them but did not say whic batter they used but I have a great batter recipe...
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/2tsp sugar more or less to taste
1 tsp salt
pepper for frying meats but for twinkies no pepper
Mix until smooth. Dip whatever your frying into batter. Then fry.
Hope this helps let me know what ya think if ya try it out:)

I have heard of these and deep-fried Oreo's but I have never tried either one and I don't know how you would make them at home. I have heard that the Twinkies are excellent. I don't care for the Snickers as I have tried them.

I've never seen them before either, but on Food Network's 'Unwrapped', they talked about them and said they were really good. I think it might be a little sweet for me. They sell all kinds of crazy things at state and world fairs. I saw that one state has a fried Spite or 7UP. I can't remember how they did it, but that one is crazy!:P
