I read it for class once. It left me wondering what my crime was, cause reading that sure was my punishment.

I've read it, entirely, a real Punishment! But just a feather if you compare it to war & peace by his contemporary compatriot LT. My taste is for fantasy (Hogart's Conan the Barbarian) and science fiction (Asimov above all) and spy stories (Le Carrè) and some crime story (Poirot novels are my favorite). bye

By the way, I like a lot also the theater of the absurd and the Romanian author Ionescu is one of my favorite.

I read it once, but that was years ago. It was rather hard to get into, but it does show the workings of the start of a criminal mind. I used to believe that the bad guys sat around planning and plotting and then you have this student who kills a pawnbroker for money, believing he has performed a righteous act. It did a good job of showing delusion and I believe some of the TV crime shows got their inspiration from it. I rather liked it as I am into hard to read books. I also saw the movie and it was quite good as well.
