Have you ever sung in front of a large audience?

I did, and it was the most frustrating thing for me. I was very young then, and i really like to sing, and i thought i could sing, so, when there was an amateur contest being organized in our small village, it was fiesta time, I volunteered my name as one of the contestants...so there i was, in front of the oggling audience, probably surprised too upon seeing me and hearing my name, i prepared myself to start singing, while waiting for my cue, i found out i couldnt make out the right tune, so i began singing, at first with a wrong start, then i told the guitarist, i has to restart, but still I was singing out of tune, and then for the third time, i found myself exiting the stage crying myself out in the dark. my sister came up at the backstage and tried to apease me, that it was alright. that was one of my most unfortunate singing experience in my younger days! going back, i just could not help but laugh about it...smiles...but i am still alive! how about you there? any experience similar to mine? lol
