I am using vista home premium(preloaded) in my laptop. Many programs don not work well with vista as it is the newest os. Ex. Oracle 9i does not work in vista. But there is another 10g or 10g for vista have been launched which is supported by vista. But I like xp the most.

I am using vista from it's beta testing to till date. If you are not working in complex networking enviornment, you will not find much software compatibility issues. If you are using a single PC/Laptop you should shift to Vista as it has great userfriendly & reach fetures built into it.

So far from what I have read it is not very highly rated. So people really regret have changed from the previous version.

Windows Vista indeed has a better interface compared to other OS. I like the look and feel of it. As it is still new, there are many third party programs and drivers which have yet to be fully adaptable to Vista. I am not a spokesperson from Microsoft, but I am sure so far Microsoft does provide hotfix for its product to run on the Vista platform.
