Online Gambling

I have a few questions about online gambling that I want answered as I'm interested in learning more about it. The reason why is that I learned the other day that online gambling is steadily becoming the fastest growing online industry on the web. If I had a few bucks to spare, this is definitly where I would buy some shares.
But there are a few things that I'm not sure about...
1) Can one win? - Since this is a computer program with code and mathematical prosedures, surely the element of chance has been eliminated partly if not wholly in it. I'm not saying that the computer never lets you win, but I'm almost certain that the online casinos wrote the programs that they make some good cash before they allow some random person to win something.
2) What about these "cheats" found on some websites? - I have never tried them really, I mean, don't the casinos know about these, and can change the code so as to make these cheats absolete. (If you know of any that work, please post the link here as I would like to know.)
3) Is it addictive? - We know that "real-life" gambling is addictive, but what about online gambling, or can it be seen as playing a computer game? If it is, what are some of the things one can do to "play it safe" or prevent addiction? If I feel I have such an addiction, where can I go for help?
4) If I was a betting man, where should I go? Please post the links of some great online casinos here.
The other day as I was doing an audit at a shop located within a casino I was amazed to learn how many people gamble during the day. Upon asking the owner of the shop about it, he told me that they were "career gamblers". If there are any career gamblers out there, please also write in and tell me a bit about your day, as I'm curious. I never supposed one could make a living out of this.

I really wouldn't try online gaming. Its the same as going to the casino. Never really win. But I'm also involved in some kind of gambling on the internet. I'm into HYIP. So that's a kind of gambling. I got scammed 30 dollars. Anyway, I hope to recover and I just got to wait for another 2 weeks. If not, I'm gonna stop. My bf is already very angry with me. No problem. I never spend like thousands just tens of dollars to try. So its fine I guess.

Thanks for the response, I dont gamble myself as I believe that it is against good financial practice. However, I would like to learn more about it for some personal research that I'm conducting, and I need those questions answered. Do you know of anyone that could help me?
I checked out the website for HYIP and find it very interesting. Its like a mini "money-market". In a way you are very right in saying that investments are like gambling, because of the uncertainty-factor. Have you been able to regain your $30 that you lost? Please let me know how that goes, as I am interested in knowing?

Well, I have not recovered my 30 bucks yet but I hope it should be done in a few days time. I REALLY HOPE NOTHING GOES WRONG!!! Its somewhat exciting like gambling but I think its better because gambling, most of the time you lose, this one, if you do your research well and have good six sense, it kind of works. So far its been ok, other than the 30 bucks. :P
