Side Effects of Anti Depressants?

After the birth of my son fourteen months ago I was diagnosed with severe postnatal depression, and went onto Zoloft, an anti depressant. I had no side effects (well maybe a dry mouth occassionally but that wasn't too dramatic lol).
I am currently four months pregnant with my second child and have been diagnosed with antenatal depression. I am back on Zoloft but this time it seems to be having a few side effects. Nausea (not morning sickness nausea- its completely different), insomnia, disorientation.
Just wondering what side effects others have experienced from being on anti depressants, and how long before those side effects subsided?

I can see now why you are depressed and have every right to be, I was wondering where you had disapered to and than few of your comments, when you did come back.. I have taken the time to go though your discussions and see why.... Hugs for you.... I have not taken anti depressents because of the side effects I have been on differents things though and I am very sensitive to it... I would suggest you go back to the doctor maybe even a different one and see if there is anything eles you could do or take.... Hang in there I wish you all the Best.....

I have been on antidepressants since I was 12. Just about every kind. First I was diagnosed with just plain old depression. They threw me on prozac. I gained over 75 lbs, at 12 years old mind you, and was nauseuaus all the time. They took me off of that, and stuck me on a generic form of something, at age 15, it made me have irregular periods, and caused me a miscarriage and hemmorage at age 18, of course they switched me again at that point, and diagnosed me with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Borderline Personality disorder when I was 18, and put me on Lithium, and Zoloft. I am currently on the same meds. I havent had any side effects with this combo........
It really does depend on the person, and your genetic make up, your structural make up, and many other components. Good luck to you, and Congrats!!!

I was on Zoloft for PTSD and pain---did you know Zoloft helps with that as well?? Anyways, it worked well for me. I did suffer insomnia, but had to take medication for that too. My side effect was weight gain. I had to say good-bye to my size 5 and hello to size 12 in less that 1 year. Being 32. it has been difficult to get my weight down. Then the cycle starts again---depressed about being heavier and bigger. I had to stop taking the Zoloft because I could not afford it. For me, the side effects NEVER went away---instead, there was a medication to take for those, except for the weight gain.
You have a slightly different diagnosis since you are pregnant. I hope you have an uneventful, healthy pregnancy.

I have been on Lexapro for a little over 4 months and although it comes with a laundry list of side effects the only one that I've had is insomnia. No matter how tired I feel, I simply cannot get to sleep. I now take Equate sleep aids before I go to bed and that really helps.

With so much happening in your body, I hate to just lump symptoms on an anti-depressant. But the side affects from anti-depressants I've been on (I'm bipolar), I've experienced dry mouth, weight gain, nausea, and dry skin. I've always had sleeping problems, so who knows if the medicine made a different there. For me, the dry mouth is the worst. I'm always drinking water. Which makes bathroom trips more frequent. That never goes away. The nausea went away after a couple months, and the dry skin I just fixed with excessive lotion. I wish you luck with everything and I hope you have a healthy new baby in 5 months! : )
