Hi. I just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there that has this condition. I am only 29 years old and I have it in my left leg. Is there anything that you have done that has eased the swelling or the pain? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lymphedema is characterized by severe swelling of an extremity. I'm not talking about the swelling that goes down when you get off of your feet. I'm talking swelling that NEVER goes away. My left leg is approx 12 inches bigger around than my right leg. It is very painful and can cause, as in my case, disability. Most people get it after having surgery, etc on the extremity, however, mine was cause by cellulitis in that leg. It was so bad that it scarred my lymph tracts, and rendered them unable to release fluid build up. Now, the fluid gets there, but can't get back out.

I was officially diagnosed with it the last part of May in 2009, but I probably had it long before. I thought that it was just edema before then. I wrap my legs in stretch bandages and try to make sure that I get enough stretch-out time that the fluid won't gather there so much that it splits my skin open. I hope you can find help for yours. With me, both of my legs are affected. I suspect that the cause in my case were some psychotropic meds that I was prescribed back in the 1970s.
