It made sense in an odd sort of way. There had to be a reason that Snape's loyalty to Dumbledore remained so concrete. Just inherently being a good guy at heart wouldn't cut it. The whole Severus/Lily unrequited love thing tied everything together.
To be honest, I liked it.

It kinda made sense to me. I didn't think that Snape's hatred of Harry's father was solely based on James' actions in school. It's actually been a theory for quite awhile... On mugglenet there's a thing that points out that Severus Snape is an anagram for Persues Evans (Lily's maiden name). It's spelled wrong, but phonetically it's the same thing.

WoW! Snape's so martyr! I was so shocked upon knowing that he's in loved with Lily Potter. He had sacrificed his love just to make Lily happy.

It wasn't a big shocker actually. I knew Snape had his reasons for helping Dumbledore and Harry. I just didn't know that Dumby would resort to blackmail. I don't like book 7, it's too "nothing". It just answered the questions, and finished the series. It wasn't what I expected. End with a bang, right? Not the HP series. And the US version has a lot of typographical errors, I returned the book!

I'm not really surprised but what really surprised me is that Snape allowed himself to be hated and treated as an outcast even by fellow professors because he was and still in love with a woman who never was his to begin with. That's blind love and blind loyalty. But then love in the end did conquer all.
