I am not a racist person, and everyone deserves the right to live the life they want to live, but not at the expense of others. What is it that a person can come in to america and recieve healthcare and all other benefits when american men, women, and children and being kicked off healthcare? Why is it that more immigrants are getting jobs than regular americans? Are we losing our rights? Are we about to be a minority in the United States? If a person decides to come over here to better their life, works hard and EARNS all they get then i am all for it. After all, our ancestors came to America searching for a better life, but as I see it, these people are taking advantage of our government. American born citizens are losing their rights and they are going straight to illegals. Am I the only one that has a problem with this?

No, you're not the only one, just one of a few daring enough to voice the truth. My husband is second generation Mexican American, speaks no Spanish (beyond teh taco bell menu) and was raised to be an American. Constantly people give him a hard time by speaking to him in Spansih and never even trying english first, or like when we were in the bank the other day. We watched three people in front of us cash their checks with visas and greencards, and then when we went to make a deposit and get a little cash back were harrassed, had the manager called out to verify that he was who his id said, etc...His name is totallynot what you would expect for someone who appears to be latino, but still, he opens his mouth and speaks with a texas accent, so you think that people would figure it out. It is constant and annoying. To top it all off now that we are in Cali, it has been hard for me to find a decent job since I don't speak spanish that fluently either. Life is becoming ridiculous here in so many ways that I feel as though I should join the immigration bandwagon and go north too!! To cananda!

Oh my goodness, now I have to get in on this one. I went to school to become a Medical Assistant. Went down to the Red Cross to apply and they said that I needed to be bilingual. I was livid to say the least. I never realized in school that one day I would need to know Spanish to get a job in America. I have nothing against any race, I love everyone equally, but that really discouraged me and threw me for a loop.

My boyfriend went to the DMV to get his liscended chanced over to Tennessee, the DMV said he had to have his birth certificate to get his liscense to he went to the Dept. of Health to get one sent to him. They told him that in order to get his birth cert. he had to prove he was american born. They also said he would have to write to Nashville to get his cert. b/c they cant get it thru their state computers b/c his name is too long. They gave him a form to fill out proving his citizenship so he took it and went to his truck to leave. When he turned the form over it was printed in spanish. Needless to say, this was one angry man.

Just an after thought really ...but I had also noticed almost ten years ago now that when I was still in highschool, they sent home letters in english on one side and spanish on the other...this has been going on longer than some of us realize and even when we do, what is there that can be done?

No you are not the only one who has a problem with this. It is a huge controversial issue in America. I know exactly what you mean, but I just say that it does no good to get all up in arms about it on Mylot. Talking about it here will only get tempers flaring and your post deleted. This is a fight you have to take to the polls when you vote. Peace out.

Last I read, Mylot is a discussion board where you have that ability to discuss issues. This is an issue. It is not offensive, it is not immoral, it is not threatening. It is my right to voice an opinion. If I am wrong I apologize. If people choose to have my discussion deleted then so be it. If they have a problem with a topic then why acknowledge it? Why read it?

I am sorry if I offended you. I was just trying to make you aware that this is a very touchy subject and people may be offended by it. I am not at all offended, as I said, I agree with you.

It is the same here in sweden -actually I think it is worse. Here we even give them money if tey decide to return to their country, money that we taxpayers have paid. They are more likely to get help frm the state here as well and it can really piss me off attimes. Wehave people here who have lived here for 10 years, and never worked a day, they justrecive money from the state and never even bother to learn the language... Aww, I am not aracis either- my ex is a man from turkey - but it makes me going =)

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you! I feel that we are the minority. Where I live, there are hispanic stores everywhere and I wonder....HOW can they open their own business? I was born and raised here and I can barely get a bank loan without jumping through hoops. The health care is crazy. All illegals get all of the free health care, while our veterans, seniors, handicapped, etc. can hardly get any help at all! and I really hate to say it, but..........they have several kids with them and one on the way. I am all for the American Dream, but could us American's have some of the "dream" for real?????
