Why are some mebers like this?

I decided to go to "discussions with no responses" and answer a few. I repsonded to one a minute after it was posted. To my surprise i was awarded the best response right away with no other responses. Plus this member did not leave a comment. This is not a new member either having a count of over 1700. Why are there members like this awarding BR when I know I love getting it awarded but not being the first one and within 2 minutes of responding. This kills a site like this I feel. Plus they now have the gull to request friends with me? Unreal. I have to leave this request sit as they ARE JUST AFTER THE QUICK CASH IT SEEMS AND CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT A MEMBER HAS TO SAY IT SEEMS.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Or they will award best response to the only response that agreed to what they posted to begin with. I responded to one like that yesterday. The gal wanted to know when best time to declaw her kittens. Only one person acknowledged her in responding an age while e1 else blasted her for even thinking of declawing and giving her tons of reasons why she shouldn't. Guess who got the best response?

But why would they give best response to someone they disagree with? Obviously that would not be the best response to them.
I am not saying I agree what their opinion, but it is just that, opinion. I would probably have chosen the same one if that is how I felt.

Luckily that hasn't happened to me! I guess they're just all about the money... mylot doesn't pay that well anyways but I love the discussions and the interaction and the people here. I usually wait a couple weeks (if I'm getting a lot of responses) before I decide on the best response!

And then to ask to be a friend of mine too? Just because they gave me BR right away? I think not at this time anyhow. HAHAHAHA!!

When I was a new member, a long time ago, there were some older members telling the newbie to always award your first response as a best response, because it is that response that validates your discussion and causes you to earn pay for it. That may be why they are so quick on the trigger. I like to give my new discussions an hour or two before I even look back at them. I also like to wait, and see what response there is. It can be frustrating, I am sure.

i CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE SAID THAT ABOUT MARKING THE FIRST. i WOULD NEVER TELL A NEWBIE THAT ABOUT THE br. i SAY GIVE IT TO THE BEST RESPONDER. eVEN IF IT'S NUMBER 2 RESPONSE. nOT THE VERY FIRST UNLESS IT'S AN OLD OLD DISCUSSION.

I have known you long enough to know about that tricky caps lock key, so I know you are not yelling.;). I know it is a crock to mark BR first thing."Best" means better than all the rest, hard to compare with nothing else there, and it was a fresh discussion, so it had potential. Maybe if he/she was a friend, they would see this discussion, LOL.

Hi Bob is this one of those questions that have been on a site for ever? I know I had a few and I asked a few friends to answer so I could get rid of the darn thing.because you can not get it off your unresolved discussions until you give best response.any way that may be one answer or some one just hit the wrong part of the discussion by mistake. I was shocked when I went on my best responses and saw how many I had, So probably have not thanked everyone properly. Good to see you aging Bob. hope your dad is doing OK

Hi Grandpa Bob. I'm pretty sure I've been guilty of giving a best response right away to a poster that responded to my discussion that had no responses. But it was because these discussions had just been sitting for some time without any responses and I basically wanted to get it off of my unresolved discussions list. Though with the glitches we get on here I wonder why I bother sometimes.
As I have stated to another mylotter (though in a private discussion) I add friends when either 1) I replied to their discussion 2) they replied to mine, and/or 3) we have similar interests.
Is what I am doing wrong? :*(

Hi Grandpa..Ofcourse...even i was awarded a best response like this within 5 minututes and i was the person who responded first. You know some of the people really dont award best response. They start nearly 8 to 10 discussions a day but never award best responses.
Well..coming to your discussion ,I think they should wait atleast for oneday .Mylot is an international site and many people login to mylot everyday at different times.
So they should learn to wait atleast one day and give some chance to answer by the members.

Yes, there are certain people who start 8 to 10 discussions each day, which makes me suspect that they are not doing many responses.
I wait at least two weeks before giving a best response.

I hear what you say, I've seen it myself.. I always wait until I get at least 10-15 response and than pick the one I believe has a point.. I don't just pick just because now that wouldn't be fair I don't think... Sometimes though I'll get like 4 replies and have no choice than to pick.. But one thing I always do is reply back the person who did reply.. I find that fair and something they deserve for taking the time to reply.. They don't have too they can always skip around and reply to others.. I think though it's nice to say thank you.. Just my oppion!!!

That's a good thing... I don't mind people still posting on the subject because they have that right I feel if they have something to say , I say go for it.. But people just doing after a few minutes and with one reply sure don't make any sense to me that's for sure...

I do the same usually waiting for at least 10 responses. Unless it's more than a couple weeks old then I'll clear it as far as resolving it.

How long did the discussion go without anyone posting? I mean you get desperate sometimes. I have a lot of no response postings which I am desperate for someone to answer. However I would never give a best response unless I have someone else responding. It might make the only person responding more conceited than he already is. Glad that best respond did not go to your head.

i don't blame you for being annoyed by this, Bob. It has not yet happeend to me, but i have seen it happen and it always angers me. It really DOES kill the site's integrity. Not only do i see it happen to the first person who responds, but also to the first person who responds in agreement with the topic starter. It's not supposed to be about who agrees with you. It is supposed to be about who put the most thoguth and effort into their response.

Yeah, you would THINK they would know better. i guess what it boils down to is the integrity of the individual as well. i mean, someone with little integrity could hardly be bothered worrying aboutthe integrity of an internet site...*rolls eyes*

Yes that is unreal. I'm sure we've probably been on this planet a little longer too. Some people just don't think. I've seen this sort of thing before, not with only one response, but I was going to answer a post and saw that BR was already given and there were only three resonses. I agree it's not good for the sitge.

HAHAHAHA!!! I see you find this discussion I was referring to.
Still noone else has added a response. Too funny isn't it. This
member won't get any more I think. It wasn't that good of a
discussion to begin with then to award BR in the very first
minute may have killed it as well.

Hi Grandpa! What I have observed that "Grandpa never pays attention to all discussions but to those which has some potential :)". You responded to one of those discussions having no response but some catchy matter worthy to be attended, isn't it? I feel that some of the people are those who don't have much response but have somewhat good idea posted here.
Grandpa! There are many admirers of postings who really love you, want to have your kind attention too. Quite possible, one of those have done it all .... with love & respect .... feeling proud that one of the vetran has responded him. Hope for the best and Love you Grandpa!@ Regards.

No. That's not it at all. This person has NEVER seen my discussions. Anyhow I truely appreciate these kind words from you. I feel honored to have you on my friends list. Thanks. This member is just after the cash and seems not to care about the other members in the least. Still hasn't commented to my rresponse either.

You really don't give yourself enough credit gramps, maybe your reply was just THAT good! Haha ;)
I've never encountered these type of myLotters myself, but I have heard of people who just award BR to the first person to reply to them. Not sure what the point of that is or of the logic behind it, but there you go. I say you should keep him as your friend and just make sure you get to him first! And offer a quality reply, of course. Haha! :P

Don't be so mad at it. As far as we know, best responses don't really have a role here on myLot, right? Most people don't use it correctly, I think.
I take ages to choose my best responses (I do it like... Once every 2 months or something? Hahaha), and some other people just give the best response to the first response they got that answers correctly to the discussion they made. That must be his/her way of choosing it.
Cheers, my friend! :)

I'm guessing, maybe they were so desperate to have someone react to their discussion that they promised themselves that whoever comments first will be the best response. *LOL*
I usually see that here in myLot. The first response usually is made the best response no matter what.
It's even funnier whenever I see a best response to a topic that is actually more of choosing rather than explaining. Samples of which are: Which is better: Yahoo or Gmail ~ how could you give out the best response to those who choose YAHOO or GMAIL, I mean even without any explanation as to why, they just give it out. *LOL*
I'm not in a hurry to give out my best response, I usually try to read posts, and wait for that one post that strikes me the most.
By the way, is there a time limit as to how long you should give out the best response? Because there are discussions I have started when I was still new that haven't given out the best response yet. Is that ok?
=)
Happy posting... Keep it real and cool.

"desperate to have someone react to their discussion" ? But the point is in one minute the BR awarded and a freinds request sent also? Unreal. This is just one example of a penny pinching money grabber.

Yeah, there are those who have had discussions without people reacting to them, that's why maybe they were afraid no one would ever answer ~ that's why I said they were desperate for people to react. *LOL*
Hmm.. It's not really weird when you are awarded a best response then you are also added as a friend. Most of the times, I think it's because he/she likes the way you react and thinks you are a worthwhile person to talk to, that's why they add you and name you best response.
But in the case of your discussion where only a few lines or thoughts or the first one to comment is awarded the best response and a request for friendship, then maybe they're just here in mylot to have a lot of people on their list. *LOL* Now that is weird.
Are we being paid by how many people we have as friends?
=)

Bob you are such a prude. LOL I don't understand it either. It makes no sense to give BR within 5 minutes. I can see if they gave BR to the 1st response regardless but they should wait. Something could enlighten them.
You know they probably didn't bother to read what you said. It is a crock and from the sound of it you will probably not be responding to any more of their discussions.

maybe you've given the best response he/she thinks or wish to have. you know when you host a discussion, you have what kind of responses you anticipate for and maybe the criteria for which you'd give the best response. so maybe you've fallen within that.

I must admit I do often wonder why people do this, I will still reply to a discussion even though they have awarded the best response, because I am here for enjoyment not the money, but it does seem a bit wierd to me that they have awarded best response that quickly. I leave my discussions for a few weeks before rewarding best response, at least that way I can actually award it to the person who I do actually thing gave the best response

You would think if they were new then I could understand..It isn't right and I don't know why they would do it. And then to request you as a friend isn't right either. They think you will accept because they just gave you best response..Getting the BR is great but not when it is done this way..Sorry to hear this..
