What is data entry and are there any decent schemes?

I haven't found a way to search MyLot but somewhere I saw a discussion about 'data entry' schemes. I have free time that I want to use profitably (NOT blogging, I already know about that) and I've seen all these data entry schemes advertised that all say you can earn zillions for as little as one hour's work a day. Now if it were that easy everyone would be doing it so patently they're all being extremely economical with the truth, but I really do want to know what the angle is. I have to say the other slightly worrying thing is they all say you don't need to be clever or have any skills. So long as you have a pulse (and a credit card to pay the joining fee!) you can sign up. Again are people really paying hundreds of dollars to a copy typists? Any and all information of Data Entry gratefully received.
