I definitely prefer Linux, no doubt. I use Linux, Mandriva 2007.1 Spring Edition distribution. The reasons why I use Linux are many: - Linux is virus free, worms, trojans and other infections that windows users know very well. - Linux is more stable than windows, in Linux you won't see blue screens telling that there is an error. - Linux file system doesn't suffer of fragmentation. - Linux is faster than windows. - Linux has a lot of software, especially open source software. It's not true now that windows is easier to use than Linux, simply is quite different to use, so you need some practice. Nothing is perfect, so it is Linux. Linux is the best choice we can make if we don't have an Apple computer. However Linux is almost invulnerable in comparison with windows. Linux has a very strong scheme of organization of files, only the creator and root can access his own files, so viruses have a difficult life in Linux. As regards for hackers, there is some possibilities that you can be attacked, but it's sufficient, in almost all cases, to use a well configured firewall. Linux has became so popular in these years because now is quite easy to use, more or less like windows, you only have to use it and Linux becomes very comfortable, also because there are many Linux distributions and you can find one that you like.

I realise that there are far more programs available for Windows, and many of them are of a higher quality than their Linux counterparts. However, there is still a good selection of software programs available for Linux. It is certainly not necessary to be a programmer to reap benefits from using Linux.
