Squirrel problem

I like to watch the birds feeding of my bird table.
but i have a problem with squirrels coming to steal the nuts. this was not a problem until last week when after complaints from the neighbours the police came and removed my pump action shotgun. now the squirrels are free to come and go as they please.
Does anyone have a solution or should i just go and buy some large mouse traps?

Squirrels can be quite problematic, especially as they like to take the foods for the birds. I can't really blame them, as they are hungry, too. But it can be irritating to set the foods out for the bird and the bird not get it because of the pesky squirrel. Plus, the pesky squirrel can be the danger for chewing the wires in the house, so you must be vigilent in keeping them away!
I had never considered the large mouse trap, but that may be the good idea, especially considering that the squirrel is rodent.
