I've always known it as Laugh Out Loud.
I like the thought of Lots of Love but that would be silly when sending instant messages. I usually put it after something I have typed and want it to sound good humoured, hence Laugh Out Loud.

There are lots of meaning for this acronym "LOL", it depends on what term you'd use it. At work, we use to say LoL, meaning Labour of Love!;) When online, LoL means Laughing out Loud or even Lots of Laughs.
I love playing words, as everyone can provide their own interpertation of this very word (LoL)..

OMG -- Oh My God
WTF -- What The ....
Those are a couple extra. With the advent of text messaging in cell phones there is a whole new language out there of pseudo words.

Hi Aissha,
I was also very confusion when I was new here at mylot about the meaning of LOL. I asked my friend regarding this through private message. So, I got to know what it means. Some say it means 'Laugh Out Loud', 'Lots Of Love' etc. I think it depends upon when and where you are using it. If your posting some humor then it would mean 'Laugh Out Loud'.

I think it means "lot of laughs" or as you say "laugh out loud" It is always used after someone says something that is either funny or a little bit of a disagreement sentence...I do not think it means anything to do with love, even though it could, but it is used by total strangers to each other, where love does not even come into the picture. Its really something someone adds at the end of a sentence that lightens the mood so to speak....Thats just my opinion Aissha,it may or may not be the case.
