Would you go out of your way to help a stranger in need?

Would you help someone out, even if you didn't even know them?
Say for instance, you see someone on the side of the road with a flat tire, and it is obvious they are in need of help.
Would you stop to give them a lending hand?
Or if you know how to work on cars, would you help them fix their problem?
Or, if someone was feeling depressed, and they obviously needed some cheering up, would you try your best to cheer them up? Even if they didn't ask?
This happened to me just yesterday.
Someone was threatening to commit suicide, right here on mylot.
They were obviously very depressed, so I told them that if they ever needed to talk (because sometimes people just need someone to listen), and they didn't even respond back!
I am feeling bad about it alittle, because I lended them my ears and my thoughful advice, and they disregarded it.
Hey, at least I tried.
For all I know, they went and killed themselves, when I could have helped.
But, I guess when someone is determined to do something, they will.
So, in any instance, if you can help, would you?
Or would you think to yourself, "hey, it's not my problem."
I would always try to help, just for the satisfaction of knowing my knowledge helped them with their dilemma.
So, how about you?
Tell all!

Well, I work in a call centre in customer services. I get to talk to at least 50 customer in a day who are totally strangers to me. Sometimes customers claim for something which I am not sure about. At that time, I just need to make a split second decision whether to believe the customer or not. In these situations, I leave the decision on my senses and if I feel that the customer is genuine, I do anything I can in order to help the customer.

8 times out of 10 yea I do, have and would go out of my way to help someone in need...its just my nature really..and there was a time when it was 10 out of 10 times but that ended up creating issues for me and holding ME back in life etc so thats no longer acceptable...I couldnt be a "hey thats not my problem" kind of person simply because I know what its like to need help in one way or another and have ppl either totally blow you off or just not give a crap ya know and its a horrid feeling so I couldnt knowingly do that to someone else (provided I'm actually able to help at that time)

If I see someone in need, and I know I can help, I will usually volunteer my help. I have done this many times to strangers, and they are usually very thankful for the gesture. By helping, I feel good inside knowing that I can make a difference in someone else's life or situation. Some day, I too would need help from strangers, and I would certainly appreciate people stopping by to lend me a hand without me having to go around begging for help.

Yeah i did help this particular blind person to get to his destination for 20-25 days. He used to catch the same bus as me and would get down on the same stop. At times he needed help in crossing the roads and getting to his destination which was about 5 minutes walk from my office. So i used to help him in getting there. Altough i didn't know him personally, still it gave me some satisfaction that i could help him out.

Oh definitely! I remember taking the public train for a number of times and am always giving up seats to the elderly persons. You know? Elderly people tend to have feeble legs. Even my mum does that! It is really nice to show concern to others and the satisfaction comes from doing good deeds. Think about it, when you are in need of help, would you hope that there will be someone to lend you a helping hand? Surely! Anyway, it is always good to be helpful. ^^
