Are hybrids really saving the earth by reducing pollution ?

As far as i know the hybrid cars are not that much special from a normal car in doing its part in saving the earth from pollution....is it ? i dont really know becaus there is no hybrids in my country.

yea it does because it dose not pute the like a normal car so thats why it saves the earth less pullution.

I don't know that I would say they are "saving the world." A hybrid simply uses less gas because it also uses a battery that is recharged as the engine runs and is used to power the electrical systems instead of the traditional way of using the running engine to power those systems. That allows the engine to shut off and not use fuel when the car is not moving (like at stoplights, etc), but the car is still "on." The hybrids just cut down on pollution this way and get better gas mileage as a result, too.
