Have you ever had a problem that you just can't figure out? I've had one stuck in my head for years, decades even, and just can't figure it out. Anytime someone mentions favorite teachers, this puzzle comes back to haunt me because I never figured it out, yet we were assured that there was a solution. I don't have any way to contact the teacher that gave me this puzzle and have had no success with trying to find the same image. So, I am asking MyLot members for help with this. Can you figure out the puzzle? Have you ever seen this diagram before? Do you remember where? Any help is gratefully appreciated. http://apaidreader.googlepages.com/puzzled

It doesn't have to be a straight line, just a single line.

If you fold tha paper it's just possible to get most of the lines over the same vertical... thus going through each of them drawing a single, straight line

I have never seen it... sorry. I was also given a puzzle of sorts from a teacher many years ago that I do not know the answer for. I was in 7th grade, it was social studies/history class and the question was given Why is it important to study History.... and so many answers we students could come up with the teacher always shook his head no and said, that is not correct.

Some teachers really want to make you think. :)

I've given the diagram and instructions on the page the link leads to. It was the only way I could manage to show the puzzle diagram.

A vertex is the point of intersection of two lines, thus, it is part of both. Crossing a vertex you are crossing both lines. So... http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalelelvigilante/2380950362/

Very interesting solution Dessig! I know this teacher liked to make us think, but we were barely doing prealgebra in 7th grade, lol. Sure would be nice to find my teacher again and see if this is indeed the answer he was looking for.

A failed attempt - This is one of my failed attempts so you can see how the puzzle is not solved. :)
The boxes must remain the same size but we were told that we could draw the diagram upside down or on it's side if we wanted to. The size of the ENTIRE box can be reduced though. We were told we could draw them as big or small as we needed to. Needless to say, I would draw small boxes so I could fit more attempts on a sheet of paper but I have still used alot of paper trying to figure this out, lol.
