My 10 yr old brother's cat died a couple of weeks ago. He was very upset at first but is doing fine now. I want to bring him a new cat from the shelter, how long should I wait?

That will depend on your brother, mostly. You might want to wait until he expresses a desire for another cat, which I'm sure that he will eventually. It might be a day, week, month, or even several months from now. There is no "set" time, as people's grieving processes vary.
When I lost my Tabitha last October, I went to the shelter with my sister and adopted a new cat, Waffles, the very next day. I couldn't stand to be alone in the house. I'm much too used to having one or more cats around as company.

Thank you for the advice. I am hoping to get another cat as soon as possible but, you are right. I need to respect his feelings. I just love cats and I want to rescue them all!

thanks for the suggestion sugarfloss, My brother is a pretty strong kid and he seems to have bounced back already. I am just worried bc it was his first and only pet. He has been going through a lot of channges at home (divorce, etc.) and his cat was his one constant.
I will follow your advice and ask him if/when he is ready for a new kitty.
