microsoft fair or unfair

i and my wife are a bit ticked off with microsoft, my wifes computer is running window me and my computer is running windows xp home. we cant get windows messenger to work and now we have been informed that we have to install vista to get our messengers working. now i dont know about the rest of you, but i beleive that if your are going to spend 400 dollars on a windows system, the company should make damn sure its going to work. not sell it to you then crash it so you have to spend 700 to buy their new 1. what do you think
