Just heard of it a few weeks ago and it sounds GREAT, just what I need: an inexpensive, very light laptop that I can use for carrying around, writing, and basic Internet access.
Originally I heard it would be out in August, but yesterday read that it will be more like Sept-Oct (in the U.S.). Bummer, I really wanted one as soon as possible...

After skimming around the net, I've discovered that The ASUS EEE PC 701 might start hitting retail at october at the latest...that means the upgraded, slightly more expensive EEE PC 1001 might hit the market on the first quarter of 2008! what a long wait! But I bet it'll be worth it! =)

Yeah, I was interested in the 701 until I realized just how small a 7 inche screen is. I'll probably wait for the bigger screen. But I really want this thing NOW! I do searches on the Web almost every day to see if there's a newer update on the ship date.

i think i'm sticking to waiting for the release of the 1001 than 701, the larger screen has its perks, the resolution is better suited for surfing online :)

I have not seen the new ASUS EEE PC 1001.
But I am eyeing on the new Fujitsu LifeBook U1010. It is the world's smallest tablet convertible ultra mobile PC. It has 5.6 inches screen with 1 Gb DDR2 RAM and 40 GB harddisk.
It can be used as a Notebook PC, Tablet PC or a Handheld PC. It is very versatile and has pen input capability. Internet connection is via built-in wireless LAN, LAN and Bluetooth.
It is selling at about US$1,332. I am hoping that the price will drop in the near future.

it's set to come out early 2008..:)
it's only 300$ and it's good to carry around.
Fujitsu rarely ever lower prices drastically, but a 1,300+ fujitsu is cheap enough :)
