Everyone is from US, they can say "I'm from American". When you think about American, you think it is U.S. WHY?
I think American is one continental, like Asia, Europe, African...Like somebody is from France, they say they are from France, if they say they are from Europe, you don't know which countries in Europe!
So why when we talk American, we think U.S . Why not Brazil? Mexico? or Cuba?

You make a great point. I always say I am native american, should I say I am native US. That doesn't sound right. It used to be that my people were Indians, but we didn't come from India, so they said we were native americans. Now by saying native american, anyone born in america is a native american. It gets really confusing the more I think about it. I don't think cuba is american though. They are not north america, or south america, and not central america. I don't know how to classify them. But overall you have a wonderful point. If you come from US, you would be north american so on and so forth.
