It's hard to say, because I know I learned a ton of simple songs in the beginning. But I can tell you that my beginning guitar final was "Speak Softly Love". Pretty easy melody line. For my advanced guitar final, I did Fur Elise. So that was all within my first year of playing.

I am asking because I am just learning myself and trying to find something easy to start with. I've been doing the simple stuff, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Edelweiss... I want to work on my chord changes, i.e. to make them faster (I know, lots of practice), is there a particular songyou would recommend? :)

My father taught me the beginning of "Little Black Egg" when I was about 9. I did not start playing guitar on a normal basis until about age 18.

"Yesterday" by The Beatles. It's not really a guitar song, but when I was in 6th grade there was a resurgent Beatlemania and a few of my classmates wanted to present something during our Christmas party, so I asked an uncle to teach me how to read chords...

My first riff was Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, but my first entire song that I've learned was Mad World by Gary Jules. It really took me a while to get used to changing chords and everything that I even thought of giving up...the beginning is the hardest, when it seems that you can't do anything with your fingers...Luckily, with endless hours of practice, now is exactly the opposite :)

The first song that I learned was "LEAVING ON A JETPLANE". The chords are so simple and you can easily learn it. :)

the first song was LINE TO HEAVEN by Introvoys ( one of the bands before in the phil. ) because there are only few chords to practice and it took me 1 day to learned the chords..
