Would you let your child have a pet snake?

I always said no. But when my son was 18 and had his own place he got a boa. I wouldn't touch it and I stayed away from it. One day he came running to me after work. He had left the heat light on and the snack was sick from too much heat. My son was very upset and his face was begging me to fix the problem. I took the snake and lay it on my bed(YES ON MY OWN BED). I told him to get some wet cool rags and I lay them on the hot snake. When the rag was warm I changed it for a fresh one. After awhile the snake was fine and if my son hadn't been 18 I think he would have cried in releaf. LOL My son and that snake are dead now. So that memory of him running to me for help is a good one. I have no regret that I had to touch that snake. Now I want a snake, but my husband says no......

No. Never.
Nothing/Noone could ever convince me to allow a child to have a pet snake. I wouldn't want to take the risk. Also, we don't know what's running on the snake's mind so I wouldn't gamble.

I would say no as well. It is not safe to have a snake as a pet. It is dangerous to us. Who knows when it will attack us? I am sorry for your son. Is that snake poisonous? Is it the killer of your dear son? I suggest that you should not have a snake for the sake of the safety of your family.

No, my husband would kill me if I let our son have a snake! He is deathly afraid of them, so much so that when I was eight months pregnant with our son, I had to take a six foot black snake out of our basement because he could literally not do it! I am glad that you have this cherished memory, and I am sorry about your son.

my kids and i are all afraid of snakes so i don't think my kids would ever want one for a pet. this scare was brought on when we encountered a cobra in my uncle's farm where the kids visit about once a month.
i'm sorry you've lost your son, but good memories will remain. if you can't have a snake for a pet, maybe you can just visit the zoo often or be a volunteer at the zoo taking care of boas if they have any. tc =)

Hi, well just the thought of a snake sends shivers down my spine and to think that i will let my child have snake! well all animals are dangerous, and to say that non domestic animals more so and we can never say what harm they may do us, so it is always better to keep them at a safe distance and if you must look after and keep such animals, keep them locked or caged i think and not let them be out in the open at least.

I am not one for snakes as pets. They were created for freedom, and to keep the rodent population down. To put it into a cage bothers me, and to feed it a live mouse bothers me more. So, for an adult or child, I would have to say no. Sorry.

First, I am sorry for the loss of your son. As for a pet snake, I'm afraid I'd have to say 'no.' It is wonderful that you have such a great memory of something so special that you and your son shared!

I would most likely tell my son "NO" big time due to the fact that I am not very big on snakes. Now when he's old enough to take care of himself, then that would be totally up to him to decide what he wants. But as long as he's living under my roof, my son will not have a snake. But who knows if the time comes and God blesses me with a son, I may change my mind (I doubt it).
