There are two kind of destiny or predetermination ... One which is changeable and other which is not... So lets say you don't have any choice where you will be born what looks you will have that is beyond our choices... Then you have open life in front of you with multiple choices and they are all know to the Creator but He gave us ability to think, recognize and choose between those multiple choices and when we decide on something He creates it for us with all the chain of consequences of such choice...He is just so He will judge us only according to choices we made and not on the basis of things that must happen irrelevant of our wishes or choices...so the truth is in the middle between the opposites in your question...:)
