It depends on what branch of geology you prefer. I myself am fond of palaeontology. My favorite geological location is therefore the Hateg Basin (from Romania, my country), that yields Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) deposits rich in fossils (from fish to mammals, but especially dinosaurs remnants). The most interesting fossil findings from this area, now having the Geopark status, are the dinosaur egg nests attributed to the Hadrosaurid Telmatosaurus transsylvanicus.

Just be sure you won't be disappointed!
You won't see bones all over the place once you get there. Plus, you aren't allowed to dig on your own, considering the area is a Geopark. Not to mention that The Geopark is just beginning to be built so there's not much information available. I'd suggest you'd come after a few years after the things get more organized.

I can consult you only on sites in my country. if you are planning a fun educational trip here are some suggestions (taking in consideration that my country is more or less small you could see many sites in small amount of time). so here we go. Slovenia... one of the places you can go is the river Drava it is a river "full" of gold and if you go to the right spots (where river is calm) you will surely find small gold leaves(i guess kids will be thrilled---- although they would have to find 10.000 leaves to collect a gram of gold). the next thing i would recomend is the mine in Idrija, its a Hg mine, there are a lot of minerals to be seen there and there is also a mining museum there. Another place you can visit are the caves they are just everywhere.
