Thought this might be interesting to most of the moon watchers I hope this is happening across the Big Water too.
Two moons on 27 August
27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for.............
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am . It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

I just checked that out, Lakota, and found the following:
Every year around this time, an email circulates across the Internet speculating that on August 27th, Mars will look as big as the Moon in the sky. And every year, I go ahead and debunk it. Here's a link to last year's version. Once again, I'd like to inoculate all my Universe Today readers, to make sure you understand what's going on, and you're prepared to explain to your eager friends why this non-event isn't going to happen.
Say it with me. Mars won't look as big as the Moon on August 27th.
This strange hoax first surfaced on the Internet back in 2003. An email made the rounds with the following text.... etc. etc.

Sorry, my friend, but I remember getting it last year and watching out for it night after night, to no avail. :(

Nooooo, it's not your fault at all. We tend to get these e-mails from our friends that have been circulating for years on end... like the little girl with cancer... that's been going around for about five years now.
I'm sorry to put the stoppers on yours, my friend, but I physically watched for it last year, and no go. It was the same pic and everything as it going around now. It's always best, I guess to check these things out before spending time looking for them. I know how you love the sky at night. I'm sorry, my friend. xxx

Yeah, this news is spreading like crazy in my place too! We are very eager to see the two 'moons' that will appear on the date of 28th August here. At your place it would be 27th August. I have known this from a friend of mine who is a teacher. I am determined to stay up and see this myself. I would not want to miss this. I hope I don't forget when the time comes.

Hmmmmmm, the Mars thing was supposed to have been last year, but we didn't manage to see it too well in this country. I mean, I could see it, red, in the sky but it was quite a long way off.
I hope you get to see yours. Brightest Blessings. xx

Sorry hon, but this is an urban legend that's been going around for years. It's completely false.

I've gotten these e-mails every year for the last 4 years. The actual event happened back on Aug. 27, 2003 and yes it was very big and bright..... if you were looking at it thru a telescope. With the naked eye it was not much different than usual.

My goodness...I am so glad you posted this..it is not something I would want to miss. I will have to check our time zones here and make sure we are out there to view it.
Hopefully we well all have a clear sky...sounds like something we will never forget. Thank you for making us all aware of it...we can chat about it online and share experiences. Good job Lakota12!
