I do, and I was wondering how to lower it. They tell I shouldn't be eating fruits: only strawberries, pineapple and apples! I love fruits but I know they higher my diabetes. I am having a hard time controlling it, right now is at 296 and I feel dizzy, my vision gets blurred and I want to sleep a lot. What symptoms do you suffer with diabetes? What do you suggest me to do?

You don't have to quit eating fruits. They are good for you but you do need to watch the quanity you consume. I have a blog about diabetes and how to control your blood sugar level with your diet. There are some recipes and a few tips on keeping your blood suger at 130 or below. I also have a blog that is about Diabetes (Type 2) that your family may like to read so they can understand what you are going thru. It is a bad disease but we can overcome it and live a long and healthy life. Please visit my blog and copy some of the recipes. They are easy to fix and taste very good. A few weeks ago I found pasta that I can eat. I have put the name of this pasta on the blog. http://www.squidoo.com/low_carb_recipes http://kowgirls.blogspot.com Wishing you health and happiness Kowgirl

Yes, I have diabetes. I'm here to tell you 296 is way too high. You must lower that now to not die much sooner than you should. Walking is fabulous exercise. Do at least 1 mile, 2 miles is a lot better. Of course, no sugar, white rice, mashed potatoes, alcholol or anything else that raises your blood sugar. My favorite food as to being able to eat enough to get full is brown rice. It has to be BROWN rice. This is the most filling food I know that will raise your blood sugar the least. I have found I can not eat even certain fruits. Grapes, cooked apples, peaches, raisens, bananas, or anything else too sweet is bad for diabetics, even if it is natural. Sweet is sweet, natural or not. You need to work on this. 296 is too high to have a normal life span. Good luck.

For me the real key to getting the blood sugar under control was to test often. You can read all you want and get advice all you want, but in my case I had to see it for myself to know what did and did not work. I was amazed at how good walking is for you. I was amazed at how bad many foods are for you. Testing often to learn the truth is the key.

Yes, I know. I need to work on that urgently. I will start by walking at least 5 days a week. Cut down on high carbohydrates foods and sugar. Eat more vegetables and brown rice. I know bananas are forbidden. Thank you for your input.

I do not have diabetes, but an trying to avoid getting to the point where I do. I work with a client who is diabetic. Her blood sugars are pretty well controlled at this time. I have never been told that about fruits, fresh fruits is one thing my client is allowed in moderation. I was told to eat a small high protein snack at bed time--like a spoon full of peanut butter. A half cup of beans daily because of the fiber provided is a good choice for diabetics. For my client, we look for anything processed to have less than 8 grams sugar per serving. Mild exercise, like walking, more than once a day if possible, helps. Whole grain breads. Add cinnamon to your diet. Do not eat foods high in fat or salt. The worst I have seen her sugar was when she was slightly dehydrated and had sandwiches and rolls and mashed potatoes in the course of one day at special olympics. She refuses to drink water. Good luck to you.

Hi Mimatexas, I've had diabetes for 14 years. What I can eat is unique to me and probably you too. When I first got diabetes, I would check my blood after every meal. If it went way up, I would not eat that food again. I cannot have fake sugar as it elevates my glucose. I also developed wheat intolerance and any wheat makes my sugars go WAY up. If I stay away from wheat, corn products, and fake sugars, I am ok. I love bananas but they have too much sugar as do grapes. I have found that walking and dancing keep my glucose right. If you find some activity that is fun, you are likely to stick with it. Play your favorite music and make your activity enjoyable. Some of the dancing/exercise videos are fun like Richard Simmons. I use those stretch bands and the video that came with it and I've lost 80 pounds in the last 6 years. I wish you the best with controlling your diabetes.

Hi Mimatexas, My Husband has Diabetes big time, he takes 4 shots a day. His sugar gets out of control, every now and then, his diabetes use to keep me stressed out, he is getting better with it. I use to call 911 every week, EMS. knew where we lived from coming here so often, I hope you are on the pills, that is not so bad, I think you should watch what you eat, also drink alot of water, one of the Firemen that came to assist my Husband told him when his sugar is high drink a lot of water, that will lower it some way. Are you on a Sliding Scale? my husband is, another thing, do not keep Insult Bottles no more than 30 days, after 30 days they are no good. This diabetic Specialist told my husband that. Eat Brown Rice, Turkey Meat, go to a Diabetic Specialist, I think everyone that is a Diabetic should go see a Specialist. I hope you get it under control, and Happy Holidays!

I to get those symptoms when my sugars are out of sorts. I still have my fruits but I take insulin two times a day to lower my readings. Are you on insulin? I take oral medications as well. I am taking Lantis injections. At first I was very afraid of taking the shots but now it is easier. It has helped me alot as mine were in the 300's and now I am in the 110 to 180 range. If I forget to take the shot my sugar raise up into the mid 200's. Now I have to watch my readings because of low sugars. I think these are worse then high sugars. My symptoms for low sugars are: cold sweats - fainting spells - dizziness - drunk sounding talk - weak - basically can not move from where I am at without any functions working. What has helped me is I drink alot of water. This flushes out your system. If you are just taking oral medications as you doctor about the injections as they really have helped me maange mine. As for diets, I did not just flat out cut my portions all at once. I gratually cut them. This makes it better to control and keep up with the diabetic diet. Start by cutting the fruits down to 1/4 of the normal portion - same way with the meats - eat more vegtables instead - then when you get to where your body thinks it is full on those portions ( about 6 months) cut that by 1/4 - giving you half of what you used to eat. It has worked for me and now when I go out and eat things are not as tempting for me. My hubby and I go out to eat at buffet style resteraunts and I have found that more and more of these resteraunts are catering to diabetic's now. If you feel hungry during the day in between meals have a salad or celery/carrot sticks. Counting carbs are very hard to do at first but you get used to it after awhile. As your doctor to refer you to a dietition for a meal planner and a free carbs list. He may have one in his office as well. You would be amazed at all the things that are carb free. See if there are any diabetic support groups in your area also. My group meets every tuesday and thursday and we share things like recipes - talk about what raises our sugars or what has lowered our sugars - we receive alot of info that has been released by doctors and the FDA. This has been a major factor in controlling my sugars. I did not know that there were so many people that had diabeties until I went to my first meeting. But the more info you have on this the better you can be at seeing the results. But there are ways to control and lower your blood sugars but it does take time. Stress can raise your sugars also. Excersise is the best method. I walk in the morning time or ride a bike - I go bowling 3-4 times a week - my grandson and I go to the park and play 2 times a week. Staying active will keep them lowered a bit. But do this gradually also so you do not fail at it. If you have stairs that you can walk up and down that is a start or a simple jump rope. Then a walk around the block or around one of those super stores like walmart. Each store is at least 1/2 mile around. I admit it is hard to excersise but if you make it fun then it doesn't seem like it is. Ask some friends to go with you that helps out. Sorry this is so long. I hope it helps. hugs

I am not really sure bout the exact symptoms of diabetes although my father's leg had been amputated. Things I know about diabetes is that it is accompanied by high blood pressure. Plus, wounds wont heal easily and even get bigger if not given proper medications.. I am really scared with this disease.. I hope you take good care of your health..

I was diagnosed as diabetic in Dec 2006 with fasting blood sugar of 14.8 mmol/L . Up to now, I haven't take any medication yet and my fasting blood sugar is kept under 6 mmol/L . I cut down on carbohydrates...remember things that are white are not good for us so do cut down on white bread, white rice, except for Tauhu or soya bean cake. Fruits like oranges even though it is sour but it can raise our blood glucose high.Guava and cucumber are good for us. Bittergourd is known to be very good for diabetics Exercises 30 minutes a day to burn off the glucose. Hope this sharing helps you.

My dad has diabetes and he gets similar symptoms to the ones you mentioned. I think to lower or avoid diabetes you should eat less sugary and foods high in saturated fat and keep avoid using too much sauce and salt in your food. Apparently losing weight helps as well but that depends on which type of diabetes you have.

One of the ways to enjoy "sweets" is using stevia. Stevia is an plant substitute that help regular blood sugar and tastes ten times sweeter than sugar. Besides minimizing sugar in foods, it will also help to watch your cholesterol intake.
