Critics of English football often describe english players as lacking in imagination and conforming to the long-ball game. But there are a few around who can run at defenders, who can beat them one on one using their dribbling ability and skill. Who, in your opinion, has the best skills ?
Joe Cole
Shawn Wright-Philipps
Wayne Rooney
Steven Gerrard
Aaron Lennon
Any other ( please specify)

I totally agree with you. He really needs to play as equally well, skillful and aggressive in the national team. Overall, he is a very good player, to the best of my opinion.

I think of the list that you have mentioned, Joe Cole is the only player in the world class bracket in terms of ball skills. Shaun Wright Phillips and Lennon are good as wingers, but that is more owing to their pace and slight build rather than their ball skills.
Rooney and Gerrard are your muscle players who would barge into a defence and muscle their way through. In a sense they are true blue English players who prefer the long ball game. So I guess that leaves only Joe Cole in that skillset. The little that I have seen of Walcott, he also seems destined to be a great winger with pace, but the times that he has cut in, he does seem to have it in him to develop the ball skills. Let's wait and watch on this kid!!
Cheers!
