I think that they are sometimes used interchangeably, and I think that it springs from wanting to be fun or funny when asking someone to say sign a charge slip ("Can I get your autograph on this?")
I think that autograph is a status thing, a signature received from a famous person. A signature is strictly someone signing their name.

yeah it is very nice topic to discuss, if u give autograph that's means u r success man and u r special person. but sign is general which shows u as a normal person
