I agree that certain smells which are so peculiar that we will always associate them with the respective circumstances concerned. The logs of mangrove trees which are very popular in the coastal areas in my place will always give a particular smell which is very familiar to me. The logs are usually burnt in a kiln near the estuary to make wood charcoal. I love watching the scenery of the kiln with the vast forest of mangrove trees as the background. I stayed near this area when I was a little kid. I liked to roam freely and climbing up and down among the big heap of the mangrove logs with my playmates. Now whenever I catch the smell of the mangrove logs I will remember all those ole sweet days.

I smell pumpkin pie and it brings me back to every Thanksgiving I ever had growing up. I smell Balsom trees and it brings me back to every Christmas I ever had.
I smell gas and oil and it reminds me of snowmobiling as a kid.
I smell sweet maple woodsmoke and it reminds me of every barbecue I ever had as a kid. It's like reminising to me.
