In forming an opinion, where can we write best to help us formulate ideas?

Where can we write best that would help us formulate more idea's and opinion; in paper, directly to the computer or any other means?

I have found that, for me, it is easier to start the first sentence on regular paper, then transfer that to the computer. From there the rest will usually flow.
If you are looking for others for ideas and input, then by far the best is online, a personal blog, or this site.
