Ants - again

I'm not sure how specific this is to my area (Northern England) but yesterday all of the ant nests that have been driving me nuts ERUPTED.
I was outside working on my 'project' around noon when I noticed an awful lot of flying bugs. When I looked around i seen that all of the winged ants were coming out from the nests and flying off to start their new nests. Typically I had no ant powder!
Although they really annoy me, it was actually quite beautiful to witness the simultaneous movement of what must have been hundreds of thousands of instects. (I only wish I'd had the opportunity to be fishing at the time, the trout must have been going nuts!)
Have you ever witnessed such an 'event' in the natural cycle?

I was working very hard thankyou very much Mrs!!!!
I was actually hard at it and only realised what was happening because the buggers kept flying into and landing on me, I looked around and seen that the air was thick with them. I did stop for lunch to get away from them and they'd nearly all landed and were just scurrying around when I went back out. Several of them were imprisoned in the brick-holes yesterday afternoon though. They didn't respect 'the project'! lol

We're doing pretty good. Me and the little one have a bit of a cold, mine's subsided to a couch but the little one is producing sticky snot that a wildebeest would be proud of, bless her.
We're making her sleep in her own bed too, so lack of sleep has our house a bit subdued!
How are you and your family anyway? With being off work and busy since I came back, I never caught up on what heppened during the flooding. Did they suffer any damage?

We usually have a lot of birds in the area and I oticed that they were crowded around my doorstep a week or so ago eating all the 'normal' ants from the nest under there. I was surprised that I seen very few birds on Sunday when this was happening, I guess thay must have been elsewhere at some bigger ant nests.
I love fishing and I thought at the time that the fishing may have been either really good or terrible due to the abundance of food. A guy at work (who's a mad-keen angler - a real 4 or 5 times a week guy) told me yesterday that they were fishing a river a couple of miles from my house and it was one of the best days fishing he ever had. I was GUTTED! lol

My husband is also a keen fisherman but a deep sea fisherman. We live in a coastal town, but a few years ago he decided to charter the yacht out and she is now in Madagascar, with the result is he hasn't been fishing for a long long time. I would also have thought that seeing they are getting food in abundance, it wouldn't be such a good idea, but maybe it lured them to the surface and then closer to the fisherman's bait. blah blah blah what do I know about fishing:D

I prefer sea fishing to anything else, but I'm limited to the coast as i don't have access to a boat.
You seem to know about as much as I do about fishing. I've only been into it for a couple of years now (which have also been the busiest time of my life!!lol) and haven't had much opportunity to practice.

When i was over at my mums last week (shes in south east england) a similar thing happened. I was looking out into her garden when suddenly a whole swarm of ants - flying and standard type absolutly erupted from under one of her paving slabs in the patio garden. It was incredible to see them all bursting out - all i can say is im glad i was inside looking out !!
For future refernce if you have no ant powder a kettle of boiling water does the trick.
