Mmm, my response was ousted. Let me try again.
All I know about McArthur was that he and his troops rescued my mom (who was seven at the time) and her family from a Japanese POW camp in Soerabaja, Indonesia. Later, he did something for them in New Guinea as well. Don't know the full story there but I guess if it weren't for that man I wouldn't exist. But then again, God had a plan. There's a monument dedicated to McArthur on a mountain looking over the jungle where I was born. I don't know his rank when he was in Indonesia but I believe he was already a general by the time he came to New Guinea. There's my two cents. Blessings, my friend, and have a wonderful day.

Thanks for telling your mom's rescue from the Japanese..my wife is from the Philippines and I have been to see Corregador (sp?) where the American forces made there last effort to defend the Philippines. McArthur was very intrumental in defeating the Japanese in the Pacific but of course he had a lot of help as my Godfather was in the Navy at the time in the Pacific. But I give McArthur credit for he served under his father in the Orient and understood the thinking of the Japanese.
Thanks for sharing an interesting part of history. I was only Jan 7, 1945 and am like you..i know nothing first hand about this war or any war..i was in the Air Force during 1965 thru 1969 and I did not get to go to Viet Nam...I only got to go to trainning in Texas and served in Michigan for the rest of my enlistment...My home town was in Monroe, Michigan and I was stationed about 400 miles north close to Saulte Ste. Marie, Michigan...thanks again for sharing your family saga..God Bless you always
