I think Morality is loosing its importance in today's generations. What is Morality? Morality is a "code of conduct" expected by society, or a group, or an individual. In other words, if you are not behaving like the majority you are ignoring morality. In other words Moralities are core viewpoints. If we live our life acting like everyone else how can we uphold our own beliefs? Many morality issues are on the rise today. Everyday moral issues arise, including honesty. The majority would rather hear a lie than the truth nowadays.

hi gloria,
i do feel that ethics, morality, values are all getting subjective and actually dependent on the whims of the individuals. The standard has been erased and lies, killings, felony and acts of inhumanity are but getting relative and dependent on situations!! this amazes me to a great extent!! We are falling prey to falsities in life and many a times supporting the right thing gets you to the verge of losing your life!!
thanks for a pertinent post. I am glad that you have bothered to raise this issue. may this fetches more rsponses.

no. morality is not losing its value and it never will. whether people of today uphold these or not, they are still there, their value is the same - for respect for life and human rights, justice, goodness, love of freedom, honesty, fidelity etc., etc., - their positiveness, they're being desirable and being ultimately desired is and will remain. i think that it is just for some people who have somewhat changed in their responses to the moral issues - tolerance is one reason, or the feeling of being violated, or being subjected to injustice and poverty, or apathy, or self-absorption and an uncaring attitude or for self-preservation and survival or for whatever personal circumstance a human person has given to prioritize in the face the moral issues - for these reasons are where the person is so much challenged and compromised. but as far as morality per se is concerned, it is there, it exist universally, as a guide for all of us. and it is just up to us people to uphold its full meaning in our lives.

well noted your comments. I agree with you. But anyway we can't ignore the fact that importance of morality is vanishing from current educational pattern & teachings. All teachings are based on technology. Hence young generations too are being a mock robot or machine..

thank you gloria for the 'best response'. i do really believe that values are universal and that we do have an innate sense of what is good and bad. it is just the valuing of these values on the side of some people that has somewhat diminished over the years for the reasons that i mentioned. though i'm still in the hope that there's still a remedy if there's a will to go back to the old morals that we have through re-education. it takes a lot of effort though, but everything can be done with a determined will. :)

Yes, morality is no longer a priority now. People who live based on the true morality are often considered as weird. We can see adults including teenagers who don't follow God's rules.

Yes it is true morality has lost its value. Not only morality, but all good things that our parents had taught us in 20th century has gone with the wind in 21st century.Belief in God, Good manners, respecting parents and teachers, helping each other, modesty, honesty, sacrifies, dignity of dressing gracefully, importance of family, meaning of love, taste of music, necessity of money, conciousness of guilt and forgiveness.......... in short over all thinking of people has changed. And it will become more and more worse for sure. The solution for old generation (inculding me) is just to die and leave this world. People like us are no more needed on this earth. I am ready to leave.......I have no attractions for this world.I don't know about you.

I totally agree with you. Today's generations are very much selfish. They can do any sort of things for success.

if its about honesty i agree with you that people should be more honest but on the issue of behaving like everybody else i dont think thats being moral because somtimes the majority could be wrong and i honestly think we all have the rigth to chose our own way of life and as to my understanding being moral is ensuring that you ensure that nobody is hurt by your words, actions, behaviour e.t.c and not by being a copy cat.
