Well, cats' personalities differ, and what appeals to one cat will not appeal to another. My newest cat, Mimi, is a case in point. I've had her for some seven weeks and she still seems to be pining for her previous owner whom she's been with for five years. So far, she's already let me know with her slaps that she's not ready to make friends yet.
And quite a few years ago, my sister, who raised a kitten that she named Pepe, found that Pepe simply adored her boyfriend and ignored her! In the meantime, my sister kept feeding and caring for Pepe, who lived on for some 20 years before dying of natural causes!
Go figure, lol!
Anyway, your cat may return. If I were you, I'd still keep looking for her. You never know. She might have wound up in some shelter. Just a suggestion....

To be honest I really don't know what to think. She was with me from day 1 and for the last 8 years she never left my side. I hope she is OK.

I am sorry to hear this. I hope she will return home to you. Cats do not like change and your husband moving in with you made her leave. Was she a nervous cat? Did she dislike certain people? I ask this because my mum's cat, Tiger, is very nervous of rubbish collectors. When their van comes down the road getting people's garbage he runs and hides. My neighbor recently moved to a new house about ten minutes walk away. Her three dogs were fine with her move but it upset her cat very much. She kept coming back to her old garden. The owner had to catch her and shut her in her new house until she got used to it.

I would think this was a very odd behavior for a cat, most cats will take a message and maybe get back to you. As for your cat coming back she may, but i would not set my heart on it. Most cats can remain indifferent to others. and are not affected by their presence or simply will leave the room.I just could not explain why you cat would leave the house. How very odd.
