After nearly 16 years as a stay at home mom, I'm looking for a job. I've been working at home, babysitting, for the past 9 years. But I feel the time has come to look for something else. My kids will be in 10th and 8th grades at a private school. Tuition is the main reason I looking for a job. Babysitting just doesn't cover the cost of two kids in a private school. So, I'm looking, and wondering what my chances are, considering that I have been out of the job market for so long. Has anyone else gone back to work after staying home with kids for several years?

Wow..this is a big step. I have been babysitting for 15 yrs and every year for the past 5 I have said I am getting a 'real' job and not babysitting anymore. Then I have to factor in getting a sitter for my 7 yr old after school and during the school breaks, so I decided to keep babysitting for the time being. I am really just getting into making money online with the hopes that I can start generating some good income monthly to help out. Good luck to you. If you have a temp service in your area, that might be where to start. They do lots of placements and usually will end up turning into a full time position if they like your work.

I said I was going to get a "real" job last year, but the people I sit for asked if I would consider babysitting another year, because they decided not to start their 5 yr. old in school yet. So I stayed with it one more year. The temp service is a good idea and I have thought of doing that once school starts. Some of the services here even offer free training on some computer programs. Thanks for your comment!

That definitely has to make you feel good that the people you sat for asked you to wait another year until their child started school. That is why I have been doing this for so long~ they keep having babies or they refer people to me and I want to make sure to get these kids in school first. Good luck with your job hunt.

definately go with the temp agency or even a local school, u'd be amazed at how many schools need good help and can't find them, because people dont want to work with children anymore.. plus i might add to my income by running a home sales business, i have candles that i sell, as well as working during the week, www.soycandleparties.com

I have sent some applications to schools. I would love to have a school schedule. My kids are older and could be a home without me, but I would love to have vacation time when they do. Thanks for the advise!
