Turning books into Movies

So a lot of books have been turned into movies lately. It's always been a big trend. Perhaps it would be hard for you to name a book you like, that hasn't already been made into a movie. But I'll ask anyway. If you could have one book turned into a movie, a real movie released in theaters (or cinemas), which book would you choose for the transformation?

Jodi Picoult has had 2 of her books turned into movies but I really dig her books and I think more of them should.
Also The Memory Keepers Daughter was also a really good book that could be turned into a movie. Most books that have turned into movies I usually like the movie more so than the books. Some I fortunately don't like either of...Like Nicholas Sparks. Ugh. His stuff is oh so sappy and I can't read it or watch it!

I'm glad someone else is with me! I honestly get drawn into the movies and can't stop watching them and yet the whole time I'm sitting there saying "Why am I watching this. It is the worst thing ever". I definitely think the most horrible one was "The Notebook" ... man I hated that movie. But so many people love that sappy stuff. If I ever met a man that sappy I think I'd punch him ha ha.

Wizard's First Rule the beginning of the Sword of Truth series would make for a good fantasy film epic. I think it is in the works as a television mini-series, but the big screen is where the real fun is.

I haven't read many books lately that I would want to see made into movies. I rarely get to see any new movies either. Boring life for me.

I would love to see the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters turned into movies--at least one, anyway. Amelia is a female archeologist in Egypt in the early 1900's. She and her husband, also an archeologist are always getting involved in mysteries. I think the Egyptian setting, the Victorian era and a fascinating science would make a great movie!

It would have to be The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Casteneda. I read it years ago, and always wished they would make a movie out of it. I read somewhere that there was a movie made, but I never found it anywhere.

I personally always prefer the books over the movies. I think the books are always so much better because they have the details that can't always be put into a movie, due to budget or time. I love the Harry Potter movies and I didn't read the books until after I had watched the movies. Now I see how many things were taken out of the movie that were in the books. I still like the movies, but I don't think I would have liked them as much if I had read the books first. I get this little quirk from my mom.:P I do think I would like to see some Mary Higgins Clark books made into movies. She is an incredible mystrey writer, so I think her movies would be okay.

Hello AmbiePam!(",)
I like reading books and kind of disappointed when I watched it as a movie because it's not as good as what I imagined it to be. Anyway, since I'm a big fan of Paolo Coelho, I would like to see his book The Alchemist turned into movie. It's more of a serious kind of movie but full of wisdom and adventure.(",)
Great day!(",)

I have been busy with work lately and can't spend alot of time here. You are right, it's hard to be satisfied when you happen to read the book first. I hope someday they will make "The Alchemist" movie.
I'll be keeping in touch.
God bless!

When a book is made into a movie, and it's a book I really liked, I won't go see the movie. The movies are too different, and can't get all the depth that the book can. I am usually dissapointed to see a movie after I've read the book. I remember that VC Andrews book... "Flowers in the Attic" was a movie I saw first. I loved it and bought the book. The book blew the movie away, and they always do. You just can't get enoughof hte book into a 2 hr movie without having to change, cut, and rewrite the story.
So in answer to your question, I wouldn't want any of the books I like to be made into movies. I feel happy for the author, but I won't go see it. OK, so maybe anything by Dean Koontz, so he can get the recognition. As long as he's fine with me not seeing it, which I'm sure would be OK with him.

Yeah, it was a really wierd story, but I liked it for some reason and bought all of her books. I was younger than that, I think. I'm not sure when it came out, but I'mm 33 now.

Susieq kind of stole my answer...LOL...but there are several children's books I'd love to see turned into movies...and actually I think there are actual plans to make them into movies...the Golden Compass series by Phillip Pullman, the Artemis Fowl series of books..the series of books I'm reading now are the books by Erin Hunter, known as the Warrior series all about clans of cats...uh, what else..lol...it's amazing how the author brings a very "tribal" feel to the clans and makes the cats human like, yet you never exactly forget that they are cats..I just bet with computer graphics they could produce some very realistic looking cats..Look how spectacular Aslan was in Chronicles of Narnia..and all CG

You know what AmbiePam, I am so glad you are my friend, you have discussions that have been on my mind all along. Like this one, I just read a book called Lone Wolf by Kristine L. Franklin and I was thinking how it would be a good movie. (That is if they stick with the storyline and not mess it up like they usually do)
It would be a great family movie and I really would like to see it done, but done well..

I don't like movies that are made from books, because the people who make the movies prefer to make the movie as low cost as possible, taking scenes, special effects, etc..., out of the movie. I was looking forward to watch Eragon the movie, the movie was disapointing, I expected it to be as good as the book, but it wasn'tXD But I do like some movies that are made from books( From books that I haven't read:)
