Foot & Mouth disease once again rears its ugly head in England, it is now suggested that the outbreak probably came from one of the purbright laboratories situated close to the farms infected with this terrible virus. Reports are now suggesting that the chances are that it was released accidentaly or deliberately by a human (or humans). http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6935418.stm If it was a deliberate release then this could be the start of an attack by Al-Qaeda (or possibly by animal rights activists), however the cause, it is plain that coming so soon after bombs in London and Glasgow Airport that we all will have to become more vigilant

It is a terrible situation honey but I do so hope and pray that it was down to total neglect and stupidity by one person rather than a planned evil act of terrorism! I know some animal rights activists can do silly things but surely risking the lives of many cattle would be against their beliefs? Really I do not know but I do hope that they manage to prevent it being spread any further! xxx

I agree that it would be better for it to have been an accident, however there were reports in the newspapers a few weeks that there are a number of laboratory workers who support the terrorist cause in some way.

I know exactly what you mean Eskimo - although having said that I am wary of newspaper reports - I have first hand experience of the way they twist things! xxxx

This is just another case of neglegence and poor health and safety standards which sadly is rife in the UK today. We have so many dim wits who cannot follow basic hygiene standards or try to cut corners I am amazed there are not more cases. Also, these labs are not inspected like years ago. Also, look how they got away with feeding and then we had BSE. I have heard nothing about this being related to a terrorist attack and I really don't think it is true. If you are going to bother with biological warfare, I don't think killing cattle will have any impact apart from farmers pockets.

The reports I read in the newspaper, and also television news were specific in that they were reasonable sure that it was caused by humans - either by accident or deliberately, and they were not sure if they would ever be able to prove which it was. If there are more outbreaks outside the exclusion zone then the chances are it was deliberate, if there are no more then it probably was accidental.
