Does your cat bite and scratch when you play with him/her?

That's just how cats play. They do the same thing when they play together. Try putting a mitten or something over your hand so you don't get bitten or scratched badly.

It pays to be careful, their little teeth and claws are quite sharp. Thanks for the suggestion.

My kitten Carlye plays that way. I have found spraying them with water or blowing in their face to be good deterrents when they play to rough. Yes, they would play with their siblings that way, but their siblings would tell them with claws if they were too rough, we just have to use other methods.

Yes, I have heard about that technique. People say it is quite effective. I have always wondered why most cats dislike water to such an extreme extent? It is quite peculiar would you not agree?

They all like to do that. It's a cat thing. Just stop playing with your cat, and sharply say "no."

I just stop playing with him (Columbus) and her (Waffles), wash my hands and forget about it. They play for keeps and there is nothing that I can do about it, except to avoid using my hands to play with them. And Mimi doesn't hurt me because she's been declawed by her former owners.
My poor Tabitha liked to play for keeps and sometimes scratched my hand but good.
You really can't do anything, but accept and move on. Punishing the cat for doing something that comes naturally to it is wrong.

They love doing that. You just have to show them that they are going too far. I had a cat that really thought he could bite me with all his strength. I would just stop playing with him and ignore him for a while.
After a while he was still playing that way but the bites weren't so painful anymore.

Yes mine do that, but I accept it as their nature, that is how they play. So I try to use toys so they can't reach my hands as much.
