Can you judge people, their intelligence, character and depth by the way they interpreted or analyze a movie? By the genre of movie they choose? Did you ever find yourself doing that? Can you really judge a person by that? Do you use that tool? I know that i can learn alote about a person by how he views a movie and analyze it. Do you?

I always say I judge people by the type of music they listen to and the movies they like. For instance, my friend started seeing this guy and she showed me his myspace page. So I looked at it and said "He has really bad tastes...I don't like him" Turned out I met him and hated him even more. She eventually broke up with him as she realized he really was no good for her. Duh! I mean I honestly don't say "omg you like Gwen Stefani? I hate you" or anything...but I do think the type of music someone listens to and the type of movies they watch both tell you a lot about a person.

I do understand what you are saying here, but don't you think that there is a possibility that you "shaped" a view on this person and did not give him a chance to know him and his other sides. I do know that alote of my friends have preferences of other movies or music that i do not seem to connect with, but when we talk about it, and i see how they analyze it and what is the reason they like it, it does change the whole picture.

liranlgo: No. I don't believe I had my mind made up on him prior to meeting him. Granted, I did think I wouldn't like him but that didn't mean I didn't give him a shot. The situation happened when i met him where my friend cancelled on him to meet her friends because he was being stupid about it. He begged and pleaded to meet her friends. Yet when he met us he made absolutely no effort whatsoever to have any sort of conversation with us. It wasn't in that "shy" way either, I mean the boy didn't even say HI to anyone when we were introduced. Plus, a big thing to me and many of my friends is to have a guy who can "Hang". This guy completely could not hang and voila. he was no good. Plus, I didn't say that just because they like a certain movie or anything that doesn't bode well with me doesn't mean I automatically Hate them. I said that I definitely think it tells you something about a person. Which is also what you just said... "but when we talk about it, and i see how they analyze it and what is the reason they like it, it does change the whole picture." it's the same thing essentially.

i do not think you can always judge a person by the movies they watch. on the other hand i do recall many times where i hear some of my friends say they enjoyed a horribly bad movie and i wonder why i am friends with them. Following what type of movies a person watches i feel can get you some sense of their chracter. anyone agree?

Instead of asking what he or she does for a living, or where they are from. or where or did they go to college. I like to ask what their favorite movie is. It tells me more about a person. I don't judge. But if a guy says he likes High Noon, I know that wee will never work out, I hate, hate High Noon. But on the other hand, if she says Four Brothers, we have something in common that we can build on.It is a great ice breaker. But I never judge. It is a matter of taste. And I don't know how you can judge intelligence by the films you love.

Some films shouldn't be analyzed. They will lose their magic.

I can judge people by kind of movie they want to watch, not about movie interpretation. If you talk to people like me, I will always refuse to watch movies about zombie and most horror movies. I wouldn't be able to participate in interpretation for the same reason. Filming industry went way too far and most movies are so commercial it is hard to find piece of art that you want to talk about with anyone....and analyze it...

Well this is a whole different story.. i do understand your opinion on that, and agree with you. There is a stage when things that are supposed to be art, turn to low commercial material, and lose the whole meaning.

I think this parameter cannot be applied fully. I think, there would be few people, who would only see a particular kind of movie...e.g. a horror movie. Most of the movie fans will go for a good movie, irrespective of its contents. For me it is difficult to judge someone, only on the basis of movies he or she sees.

To a certain extent, I judge people and their character from the movies they often watch. If it is just a movie of two, I would not judge them as I too watch any movie without selection. However, I am in no position to judge them by the way they interpret a movie. To be able to judge them based on their analysis, I must be able to interpret the movie myself and analyse from their viewpoint.

Yes if we are talking about a movie or two there is no way we can start and judge or know a person's character. I do agree to what you said why. :)

I think you are right about this topic. Hearing how people interpret a movie can speak volumes about their mindset. I find it fascinating because they are often more open...or make harsher judgements when it is 'just a movie.' However, how they put their observations about the characters and their choices can reveal a lot about how they see the world and how they assess things. I also think the types of movies they like to view as a steady diet does say a lot about them too. Our preferences, what we read, who we have as friends does say a lot about who we are...we've all head the quote...show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are. Perhaps the types of movies and the way they are interpreted are a good guage of who people are on the inside...or at lease give some big clues. You've come up with a good one with this topic...a hmmmmmmm one.

I find it very hard to judge people at the best of times, so being able to judge their character from the types of movies they watch and interpret would be a no no for me. People are a mystery to me in every which way, after all why is this world in a terrible state. Sorry to rant. As long as the movie makes me laugh or scares me then it's good for me.

I think one can know a little about a person by the movies they watch, but i think it takes more than this to learn ones character! I personally like people who are kind and and down to earth, so i watch how they interact with pets, people and senior citizens! I know it takes more than this, but if a person respects these three, then i feel more trust towards these people types! Take care Liran.

Yes there are more sides to a person hen the movies he sees, but to me it gives a good idea on the person's character and views when we talk or analyze the movies that he or she saw.

I think I can, as to what they perfer to watch and of how they relate to it. I for one goes by lots of factors before watching movies, as I have to make sure that I did spend my money worth. But in judging their personality, I think that is unfair because we only get to see a small fraction of what they truly are/were!;)

Well you can also say that you see a small fraction of a person when you see how he acts to things he do not agree's on, but in this small fraction you can see the whole set of reactions and alote more.

Actually I find you can learn a lot about a person by their takes on movies. It can give you a good idea on how well they understand metaphor, and how well they look into messages and themes, and social commentaries.

I don't judge the other person by their choice of movies they watch. Recently, I have been posting information about my recent movies that I have watched and there have been many different genres posted by me. I do read the reviews, as many times it helps me to see that I may have not completely understood the characters or may end up feeling a different way about the movie. I recently watched Last Kiss, The Illusionist, Last Mimzy, and the movie I posted today. Two are R rated, one pg 13 and the other is the children's movie. I have never considered watching only 1 genre.

Yes i did see momma your last posts and read them, unfortunately i did not see any of those movies you mentioned so i could not respond on them, because they haven't been shown yet in the theaters in my country, but i do hope they'll get here soon. I also see a collective types of genres, just like you. I do tend to read the reviews on movies just like you, but only after i see the movie, in order to have my own view on it when i watch it, and to see what i have missed later on. I do not judge a person character by 100% by the movies he sees, but i can have an idea with what kind of person i deal with when i talk to him or her and hear if he only sticks to one genre or how he analyzes the movies he saw.

It is not judge, but you can see a view about how one person thinks. One's thoughts are coming from within and relates it as his or herself. Maybe what you can see is the intellectual capability of one's person and some of his personality traits but you can't judge the totality of a person.

Yes i do agree with you, we can judge some things but most of the time we can not judge the totality of a person. Thank you:)
