When I have a lot of money, I buy fresh food all the time. When I have less money, I buy more canned goods. 3 cans of veggies for a dollar versus a handful of the same fresh veggie for a dollar. You would think it would be the other way around, that fresh would be cheaper. When I have time for a garden, or foraging (lloking for wild food, like gathering in hunter/gatherer), but this year I spent a lot of time looking for a job. So I had very little time to garden, forage, and very little money.
Glad you learned how to cook and have money for food that isn't in a can. Good for you! Hope I can say the same by this time next year. Take care

Canned sardines are great especially at times when you're lazy to cook or to even think about something to satisfy your hunger. We always have canned goods in stock. My favorite is canned tuna solid in vegetable oil. I can eat it straight from the can with hot steaming rice. Other times I would prefer sardines with tomato sauce with chili. I like it super hot!
