Do you agree that money should not be used as a motivating factor among employees? Why? Back when I was still in in my early college years, I thought that money is the key motivating factor among employees. However, as I graduated in college and started managing our business, it seems that money still isn't enough to make your employees perform well in their work. If you agree with the statement, why and in what other aspects can we compensate our employees?

I believe even now that money is the top-most motivating factor. We all are slogging it out for the better part of our lives, to earn the dollar. Not all of us are lucky to have our hobbies as our professions or to start or succeed in our own enterprises. Even then, we trudge daily to our workplace for the love of the lucre. However, treating employees more as partners than mere employees, does give them a sense of belonging and is a huge motivation. For this, many companies make employees their shareholders. Also public acknowledgement of personal achievements does boost the morale. Also try and keep the workplace as fun-loving and informal as possible. Family picnics and weekend parties (especially if something important has been achieved for the firm) help to strengthen the bond. The workplace should be something where the employees would feel comfortable and look forward to coming every morning. Also trust your employees, do not police them as much as possible. Ideal employers try to maintain all the above but there are spoilsports everywhere who force employers to cut out on the good intentions.
