I guess it depends on whether you want a popular name or something a bit more unusual. For my kids I wanted something a bit unusual and my eldest is named after a character in a book that I was reading when I found out I was pregnant. For the other 2 I looked in baby name books or on the internet but a fun activity was to look at the credits for people's names at the end of TV programmes.
Naming the baby after family members is another option if you are close and makes the name even more special.
I would advise checking the chosen name against your surname though as some names really don't go together. For example my children's surname begins with L so any first name beginning with L would make quite a tongue twister. Also check the initials if you are having a middle name as you don't want it to spell a rude word or sound like something else.
