We had a wicked storm here in New York early this morning! it was so bad it work me up from my drooling sleep, LOL. Anyway, I woke up about 5 and layed there just listening to thunder and lighting like i have never heard or saw before in my life. And i am a woman of a certain age, I have seen some storms, but not like this. I layed there until about 7. trying to figure out if i was going to go to work or not. The rain stopped about 7:15 so i said ok let me go ahead and get ready.
Long story short, once i got into the city i find out that all the trains are shut down!!!!!!!! OMG!! are you Fu*King kidding me. I called my boss and she said take a cab I will pay you back, or you can go home. I said ok i will take the cab. So here i am, she never made it in. I am out $20. So what would you have done? Went back home or came into work???

Was it really this morning? i could have sworn it was yesterday or something. Well i do remember i was sleeping and my mom was speaking or something and i heard her in my dreams and then i was little bit drowsy. but yeah it was an awesome storm even though i only heard most of it in my dreams.

I would of checked the news on tv first before leaving my home. They would of said if the metro trains were down or not and what roads were closed. Then i would of called my boss or work colleagues to see what the story was and who was going into work and such.
Depending on how long the trains were down for I would probably remain at work. I would still make sure my boss hit me back my $20 the next day or whenever she gets in since she was the one that told you to catch a cab and she will reimburse it. If the trains were not going to be back up and running for the whole day then I would probably take another cab home or look for someone in your office that could give you a ride home.

Since I was there, I would have stayed. When she shows up, I would be there getting my cab fare back. I can't believe that she told you to go, if she wasn't.

Down here where I live, thunderstorms and lightening are second nature here(Alabama); I don't like them, but you live with them. Personally, your boss owes you $20 whether she made it to work or not. I hope she comes through on that. That is something when the New York Transit System is shut down completely. I have only known it to do that during blackouts, 9/11, that is unusual. I'm a native New Yorker myself and know what you mean. N.Y.C. NEVER sleeps. It could be 4am, and I guarantee you, somebody's up and doing something.

It turns out there was a tornado in Bay Ridge, Brookyn. I had to call my friends that live in that area yesterday to make sure they were alright. They haven't had a tornado since 1889! I ived in New York for five years, 2000-2005. I relcated from Illinois, which has many tornadoes. I always felt safe from tornadoes in NY because tornadoes usually don't occur near the ocean or large bodies of water. It was freaky. A whole row of homes on Bay Ridge were condemned.
Obviously, the wind did damage to other parts of the city, including Manhattan.
Make sure when you see your boss she gets you your $20 back.
PEACE

I probably would have stayed at home. I have been to New York and I know how bad the weather can be over there. I thank the higher power that I live in California.

Really? Well, I recall light rain around midnight last night, at TriBeCa (I was at a concert), but no thunderstorm. I slept until 2pm today, though, so I missed it. Well, I'm glad I slept in, since I was planning on going to the Apple Store to get my ipod fixed, but without the subway, that would've been a burden anyway.
Anyway, I would've gone to work if I were you; it's always good to make more money. Besides that, you will see your boss another day, so she'll pay you back then.
