playstation 2 problems, overheating, troubleshooting

I have been owning a PS2 slimtype for about a month now. I have been scouting for certain problems that might arise. Before i bought mine, i have been researching if the new versions of ps2 does not have much problems on hardware, or compatibility. yeah, the playstation 3 is out nw in the market. but, i would like to know, what is sony's stand for those who have their consoles burned. i have a few friends that have the old ones. (slim type) the xbox had the same problem too, i have seen some reports on certain online forums. so far the worst i have heard is burning the power adapter. i have read an article that sony had those units recalled for a replacement. i hope there are not much people who would have experienced the same stuffs like these. so, what is your stand?
