As far as I'm concerned in disk partitioning (I would assume that you have a 'fat' file system) linux distributions are able to create by themselves a new partition. On the other side: if you use windows/vista programs there are available partitioning progs or also emulator progs which can help you running Linux. There is a third, more fascinating possibility: format the entire HD and install full native linux on it... bye

I am using Ubuntu with the Gnome environment and Mandriva with KDE. Ubuntu is a debian based system and Mandriva uses RPM as the installation manner, so this gives me the opportuntity to compare the two interfaces and use any available installation file.

I use debian sid and I like it because it is bleeding edge, stable (even though it is called unstable, it is still stable enough to use for everyday use), has the apt-get packaging system, and doesn't feature all of the meta packages that ubuntu has.

I like Debian coz of its stability, reliability as well as the long release cycle.I don't want daily updates for my system as I prefer Stability before anything else. Cheers, -AV

I'm actually trying Xubuntu Feisty, with CompizFusion. It's quite fast (VERY fast compared to Vista),it's not the first time i try Linux (i tried Mandriva,Suse,Kubuntu,VectorLinux, then this),but it's getting good to me. I wanna try also DSL (Damn Small Linux) on my notebook and my old pc (a p3 with 128mb and 8gb),when i'll have some free time :)
